Worming and fleas

How often and with what, depending on lifestyle.

You rarely see worms

Many cats have worms without anyone noticing. Some worms can also pass to humans, so prevention makes sense.

How often to worm?

Outdoor cats that hunt are often wormed several times a year, or their faeces are tested regularly. For indoor-only cats less often is usually enough. Discuss the right rhythm with your vet.

Spotting fleas

If your cat scratches a lot, look into the fur on her back and at the base of the tail. Small black crumbs that turn reddish on damp kitchen paper are flea droppings.

Never dog products

Some flea products for dogs contain permethrin. It is highly poisonous to cats. Only use products that are expressly approved for cats.

Treat the home as well

Most fleas don't live on the cat but as eggs and larvae in blankets and carpets. Washing and vacuuming are part of the treatment.
