How much food does a cat need?
The pack, the scales and a look at her figure.

The pack is the starting point
Every complete food shows a feeding recommendation by body weight. It's a guideline, not a law: age, exercise and neutering change how much she needs.

Several small portions are better
Cats naturally eat many small meals. Split the daily amount into two to four portions instead of putting down a lot at once.

Weigh instead of guess
Weigh your cat about once a month and add the weight. That way you see early whether the amount is right. With a healthy cat you can feel the ribs easily but not see them.

Treats count too
Treats and snacks should only make up a small part of the daily amount, as a rule of thumb at most about a tenth. Take them off the normal portion.

When to see the vet?
If your cat gains or loses weight for no obvious reason, or suddenly eats much more or less, have it checked by the vet. Together you'll find the right amount.
