Pulling on the lead
How to make walks more relaxed.
Pulling doesn't pay off
When your dog pulls, stop. If you only carry on when the lead is loose, he learns: pulling doesn't get me there faster.
Reward a loose lead
Praise him and give him a treat when he walks next to you on a loose lead. Often at first, less often later.
A good harness
A well-fitting chest harness protects the neck if your dog does pull. Avoid jerking the lead.
Allow sniffing
Sniffing is like reading the newspaper for dogs. Deliberately give him time for it on walks and he'll pull less.
