Wet or dry food?
Both work if water and quality are right.
Cats drink little
Cats descend from desert animals and get a lot of fluid from their prey. Wet food is mostly water and so helps with drinking.
Dry food isn't forbidden
Dry food is practical and keeps well. If you feed it, make extra sure your cat drinks enough, for example with a fountain or several water bowls.
Check the label
What matters is "complete food": it covers all nutrients. "Complementary food" isn't enough on its own and is more of a snack.
Mixing works too
Many people feed both, for example wet food in the morning and a small portion of dry food in between. What matters is that the total amount is right.
Switch slowly
Mix new food into the old food bit by bit over about a week. A quick change upsets many cats' stomachs.
