From about ten years a closer look pays off.

When is a cat old?

From about ten years a cat counts as a senior. Many are still fit then, but some illnesses become more common.

More frequent check-ups

For older cats, seeing the vet more than once a year makes sense. Blood tests can detect kidney and thyroid problems early, for example.

Watch for changes

If your cat drinks more, loses weight or no longer jumps up to her favourite spots, mention it to the vet. Not everything is simply age.

Making life easier

Small steps or stools up to favourite spots, a litter box with a low edge and soft, warm sleeping places help old joints.
