Teeth and bad breath
Dental problems are common and painful.

More common than you think
Many older cats have dental problems such as tartar or inflamed gums. That hurts, even if the cat keeps eating.

How you notice it
Strong bad breath, drooling, chewing on one side, dropping food or a red line along the gums are typical signs.

Have them checked once a year
Have the teeth looked at during the yearly check-up. The vet removes tartar under anaesthetic.

Brushing is possible
With patience some cats get used to having their teeth brushed. Only use toothpaste for cats, human toothpaste is not suitable.
In shortBad breath isn't just cosmetic. Have the teeth checked once a year.
